The Top Romantic Pieces

The romantic era was no short of a great one. It brought forward sweet and mournful, as well as soulful melodies and created music unmatched with others. An era of love and loss, it produced some of the most iconic pieces that are still extremely popular and influential to this very day. So what are some of these timeless pieces?

Liebesträume, Franz Liszt

This is one of the most famous sets of romantic music. It was written by Franz Liszt in 1850 and it translates to “dreams of love”. He composed the lieder after he took inspiration from a few poems by Ludwig Uhland and Ferdinand Freiligrath. In particular, the third piece of the set (Libestraum No. 3) is the most well-known with its incredibly soothing melody and the way it so perfectly encapsulates the feeling of falling in love and its loss.

Clair de Lune, Claude Debussy

Clair de Lune, a romantic piece aside, stands alone as a renowned piece, beloved by musicians and non-musicians alike for its simple yet meaningful melody. Its name in French is ‘moonlight’, and its scenic impressionistic style makes this piece a great option for a calm evening in with your other half. Although the piece seems rather simple, it took Debussy 15 years to write the third movement, since he wanted to make sure that the performer would have a chance to shine.

Nocturne in E flat major, Frédéric Chopin

Chopin has composed and is famous for many waltzes in his lifetime. All of them are special and unique in their own ways but perhaps none come as close to providing the soothing and loving atmosphere that this nocturne does. He wrote this piece at just 20, and it is written in rounded binary form which makes listening to it a really immersing experience for your ears.

Conclusion

The romantic era was perhaps the most touching one of all in music history and these are just a few of the pieces that have transcended the era and have found their way into the modern world. They are sure to remain timeless for more time to come.
